Pathfinder Outselling Dungeons & Dragons

Cyclopeatron has a great summary culled from several sources that concludes Pathfinder is outselling Dungeons & Dragons 4E.

This represents, to my knowledge, the first time in history that D&D has not been the best-selling RPG in the hobby game industry. But that, of course, begs the question of whether this really *is* the first time in history that D&D has not been the best-selling RPG. By any concrete measure of game mechanics, structure of play, and other principles of design, Pathfinder is a closer relative to D&D as it has historically existed than D&D 4E.

Perhaps what we ought conclude is not that D&D has fallen from first place, but that this is the first time in history that unbranded, older versions of D&D are outselling the latest official version.
